You do not have difficulty understanding complex text and speaking English fluently. Occasional errors in complex situations but generally very effective communication. Suitable for most university courses and professional roles requiring strong English skills.
You understand easy spoken language with ease and share information confidently. You can understand most broadcast and recording resources. May make mistakes frequently while communicating but meaning is generally clear. Meets requirements for many undergraduate courses.

For the Australian Student Visa (Subclass 500), the minimum PTE Academic requirement is typically an overall score of 36 (IELTS 5.0 equivalent). However, most universities require higher scores — usually PTE 50-65 (IELTS 6.0-7.0) depending on the course and institution.
Neither test is inherently easier — it depends on your strengths. PTE is computer-based with AI scoring, which some find more objective. IELTS speaking is with a human examiner, which some prefer. PTE results come faster (2-5 days vs 13 days for paper IELTS). We recommend taking practice tests for both to see which suits you better.
