Before You Apply — Understand This First

📋 What is a CAS? The Key to Your UK Student Visa

Every Indian student applying for a UK student visa must understand the CAS — it is the single most important document in your entire application. Here is everything you need to know, explained simply.

CAS = Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies

Your CAS is a unique reference number issued by your UK university after they offer you a place and you accept it. You cannot apply for a UK student visa without a CAS number. Think of it as the official "green light" from your university to the UK government.

1
Get Your University OfferApply to a UK university through UCAS or directly. Receive an unconditional offer.
2
Accept the Offer — University Issues Your CASAccept the offer and pay any deposit. Your university generates a unique CAS number for you.
3
Use CAS in Your Visa ApplicationEnter the CAS reference number in your online UK student visa application at gov.uk. Apply within 6 months of receiving it.
4
Visa Decision — Usually 3 WeeksUKVI processes your application and links your eVisa to your UKVI account. No physical BRP card from 2025 onwards.

⚡ Critical CAS Facts for Indian Students

Apply for your visa within 6 months of receiving your CAS — it expires
Your CAS contains your course name, fee, start date — all must match your application exactly
You must verify your university is on the UKVI Licensed Sponsors Register at gov.uk before applying
TB screening certificate is mandatory for Indian passport holders — book 3 months early
Financial evidence (28 consecutive days) must include first-year tuition + living costs
From January 2025, all UK students receive an eVisa — no physical BRP card
Graduate visa (18 months post-study) requires successful degree completion — plan from day one

Why Now

Why Studying in the UK in 2026 Is a Smart Career Move

The UK job market, Graduate visa policy, and world-class university network are converging to make 2026 one of the best years for Indian students to study in the UK. Here is what you need to understand.

⏱️

1-Year Master's — The Fastest ROI in Global Education

UK Master's programmes are completed in just 12 months — unlike the 2-year programmes in the USA or Canada. You spend less, earn your qualification faster, and enter the workforce sooner. This is the single biggest financial advantage of studying in the UK.

✈️

Graduate Visa — 18 months to Work After Your Degree

The UK Graduate visa lets you stay and work for 18 months after your degree (3 years for PhD) with no job offer needed. Apply before 31 December 2026 for the full 2-year duration. This is your window to build a UK career and potentially switch to a Skilled Worker visa.

🌏

UK Degrees Are Globally Portable

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions — UK Courses for Indian Students

The most common questions from Indian and GCC students choosing a course in the UK for 2026.

For Kerala families with a medical background: BSc Nursing or Nursing Top-Up is the strongest combination of NHS employment, NMC global registration, and Graduate visa eligibility. For IT professionals: MSc Artificial Intelligence or Cyber Security offers the highest salaries and London employment demand. For business professionals: MBA from Warwick, Cranfield, or Bath provides excellent GCC and UK career opportunities. All of these qualify for the 2-year Graduate visa. Guide to Heights provides free personalised course matching — WhatsApp us for a free assessment.

CAS stands for Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies. It is a unique reference number issued by your UK university after you accept an unconditional offer. You cannot apply for a UK student visa without a CAS. The CAS contains your course details, tuition fee, and course start date — all of which must match your visa application exactly. You must apply for your UK student visa within 6 months of receiving your CAS. Guide to Heights helps you obtain your CAS by supporting your university application from start to finish — completely free.

The Graduate visa lets you stay and work in the UK for 18 months after successfully completing your degree (3 years for PhD graduates). No job offer is needed to apply — you apply after your degree results are confirmed. If you apply on or before 31 December 2026, you receive the full 2-year duration. Applications from 1 January 2027 onwards receive only 18 months. During your Graduate visa, you can work in any job at any level, build UK experience, and potentially switch to a Skilled Worker visa with an employer sponsor. The Graduate visa fee is £822. For most UK university degrees (Bachelor's and Master's), you need IELTS Academic 6.0–6.5 overall. Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, and Teaching degrees require IELTS 7.0 with no individual band below 7.0. MBA programmes typically require 6.5. PGCE (teaching) requires 7.5. PTE Academic is accepted at equivalent scores. Guide to Heights offers IELTS coaching through partner centres in Kerala and the GCC, and discounted PTE vouchers. Dependants are only allowed for: (1) students with full government financial sponsorship studying a course of 6+ months, or (2) PhD and research-based higher degree students at universities with a track record of compliance (courses starting on or after 1 January 2024). Most taught Master's and undergraduate students from India cannot bring family members. Students who bring family members must show additional financial evidence for each dependent. Contact Guide to Heights for specific advice on your situation.

Yes — for most students, the 1-year UK Master's is the best value higher education investment available. You complete your postgraduate qualification in 12 months (compared to 18 months in USA/Canada), at lower total cost, and then get 18 months of UK work rights via the Graduate visa. For example, an MSc Data Science from Warwick costs approximately £28,000 in tuition, can be completed in 12 months, and leads to a starting salary of £40,000–£55,000. The return on investment is typically within 18–24 months. Compare this to a 2-year US Master's at USD 60,000–100,000. The UK wins on speed, cost, and global recognition.
